“I’ve noticed an improvement in many of my patients when they bring even just a little bit of exercise into their routine.”
Dr Vish Nosib, GP, South Liverpool
Vish Nosib understands the value of a healthy lifestyle to both the physical and mental wellbeing of his patients. From his surgery in leafy South Liverpool he works on the assumption that exercise and a healthy lifestyle can be as vital as medication when it comes to creating healthier outcomes for people.
“I’ve noticed an improvement in so many of my patients when they bring even just a little bit of exercise into their routine,” he says. “And it’s not just physical wellbeing. I’ve known people who have suffered from depression who have made serious advances by simply getting out and going for a walk round the block. It’s a positive cycle – not only do they get the brain stimulation, the endorphins and the release of hormones they get to meet other people which makes people feel more included. An exercise routine can even help people with more serious mental health issues.”
Vish is keen to stress that you don’t have to go ‘full lycra’ to get a little exercise into your routine and is convinced that the Arrive Happy approach to getting healthier is a positive step forward.
“I don’t live that far from the surgery,” he says, “so I try to cycle to and from work at least two times a week. It’s a lovely commute that gets me some fresh air, some exercise and helps me improve my own mental health and wellbeing so that I can be in the best state of mind for my patients.”
